Century Heritage Federal Credit Union
Century Heritage Federal Credit Union is dedicated to serving the Greater Pittsburgh Region with a focus on community and local ownership. Unlike other financial institutions in the area, we are not a division of an out-of-state conglomerate. We are a financial cooperative owned and operated by the people in our region.
Our commitment to the community has allowed us to become one of the largest locally-owned financial institutions in the area. With our staff, management, and directors all living and working in Pittsburgh, we have a personal stake in the future of our region. We believe that while big banks have branches, we have roots firmly planted in Pittsburgh.
In 1935, during the aftermath of the Great Depression, forty employees of the Duquesne Works mill of U.S. Steel recognized the potential for taking control of their financial lives by forming a credit union. They pooled $240 of their savings and applied for a credit union charter from the federal government. Their goal was to create a financial institution that they would own, where they could save and make small loans to each other.
On June 10, 1936, Century Heritage Federal Credit Union began operations with 630 members and nearly $15,000 in assets. Since then, we have continued this tradition of service to the Greater Pittsburgh Region.
As a member of Century Heritage Federal Credit Union, you are contributing to our mission of providing exceptional financial services while supporting our local community. We are proud to be rooted in Pittsburgh and look forward to continuing our legacy of serving our members and contributing to the growth and prosperity of our region for many years to come.
