The Kearney Historic Museum is a cornerstone of local heritage and storytelling, proudly preserving the vibrant history of Kearney, Missouri. Established in 2006 during the city’s sesquicentennial celebration, the museum began as a single building dedicated to showcasing Kearney’s cultural, civic, and historical milestones. As interest and contributions grew, the museum expanded in 2016 with the acquisition of an adjacent building to accommodate its growing collection of artifacts. This addition opened to the public in 2017, enhancing the visitor experience with even more compelling displays of the city’s past.

One of the most remarkable features of the museum is the historic building itself. In 2018, museum staff uncovered an eleven-page document revealing that the esteemed architectural firm Boillot & Lauck had been commissioned by Samuel C. Greenfield between 1912–1914 to transform the original 1870 jewelry and drug store into a distinguished bank building. These very buildings now serve as both the museum’s home and as a living artifact in their own right. Open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays year-round, the Kearney Historic Museum invites guests to explore not only the exhibits inside but also the enduring legacy of the structures that house them.
