San Mateo County Transportation Authority

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) plays a vital role in enhancing mobility and connectivity across San Mateo County by planning, funding, and delivering critical transportation projects and programs. Established in 1988 through the voter-approved Measure A, a half-cent sales tax, the TA was created to address countywide transportation needs. In 2004, voters extended Measure A through 2033, and in 2018, Measure W was passed to provide additional funding aimed at reducing congestion and improving transit services.

Over the years, the TA has invested approximately $2 billion in transportation infrastructure, supporting a diverse range of projects that improve safety, accessibility, and overall transportation efficiency in the region. The agency operates independently and is governed by a seven-member board of elected officials representing the county, local municipalities, and the San Mateo County Transit District. This governance structure ensures that transportation priorities are closely aligned with the needs of the communities the TA serves.
