The Good Shepherd Center, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been a place of hope and hospitality since 1951. Founded by Brother Mathias Barrett under the direction of Archbishop Edwin V. Byrne, it stands as the city’s oldest continuously operating homeless shelter. Guided by the principle of “Charity Unlimited,” the Center provides essential support such as addiction recovery programs, medical shelter, food, clothing, and housing assistance to those experiencing homelessness and hardship. Rooted in the Gospel values of love and service, the Brothers of St. John of God continue to carry forward this mission with compassion and dignity.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Good Shepherd Center remains dedicated to addressing the most urgent needs of Albuquerque’s most vulnerable residents. Through its sustainable programs and services, the Center fosters not only immediate relief but also long-term stability for those it serves. With respect, compassion, and community partnership at the heart of its work, the Good Shepherd Center continues to be a beacon of hope, extending care and opportunity to neighbors in need while upholding its mission to serve with unwavering commitment.
